Adventures in Buenos Aires

Posted by: kelsey2011 on: August 3, 2009

This weekend my whole program of 32 people traveled to Buenos Aires, the capitol of Argentina. We rode a bus there which took about 10 hours. The first day we took a tour of the city and visited some famous barrios, went to a huge cemetary that is used for the very rich of the city and the tombs are almost as big as little house, and went to various museums. We visited the museum of Eva Peron who was married to a president and did lots of good yet controvercial things for the country. On Friday night some of my friends and I went to see Phantom of the Opera on the Broadway of Argentina. It was very cool. We sat kind of far back in the balcony but the music and acting and set work was wonderful. I understood some of it but I was glad that I knew the story line so I could follow more completely! On Saturday we went to a Tango show and dinner. I am always amazed by the talent these dancers have. It is a very dificult dance but so exciting to watch! We visited lots of artisan fairs and I bought my first mate (a cup used for a special type of tea that is popular here) and some other gifts. We returned to Cordoba in plane so that we were back home in time to sleep before class today.

I start my ‘real’ classes next monday and am excited to get a fixed routine that I will have for the rest of the semester. The weather seems to maybe be warming up a little which I am thankful for! My roommate Anna leaves this week so soon I will be all on my own and have my room to myself. This means I will have to start making more friends outside of my house! I’have been very lusky to have such a great roommate to help me get adjusted to life here. Hope life is going well for you where ever you may be reading this from! Chau!
